Kirk Carnival an ‘Incredibles’ Success

Houston & Killellan Kirk Carnival was an ‘Incredibles’ success last weekend, with hundreds of folk turning out to enjoy this popular event – back for the first time in four years.

The theme was Celebrating 100 Years of Disney, so there were masses of Mickey and Minnies, plenty of Disney Princesses – and even a Monster or two.

The Anchor Boys came along as 101 Dalmatians, complete with Cruella, while the big kids at Houston & Killellan Kirk Men’s Shed dressed up as Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

1st Houston Boys Brigade Pipe Band led the parade up to the West Halls, where everyone enjoyed the activities, stalls and sideshows including a brilliant bungee run, a pirate run, Beat the Goalie, a giant slide and a bouncy castle.

A big shout out to all the local businesses who supported us by advertising in the Carnival programme and generously donating fantastic raffle prizes, to the Carnival Committee who worked tirelessly to resurrect the event, and to all those who donated home baking, produce and plants, or items for the tomobalas, ran stalls and worked behind the scenes to make sure that the day went smoothly.

We would also like to thank Jubbly for his brilliant DJ skills.

Houston & Killellan Kirk Minister, Revd Gary Noonan, said afterwards: “It was great to have our Kirk Carnival back after four years – and wonderful to see so many people, young and old, enjoying themselves. We were blessed with glorious sunshine and lots of fun, laughter and smiling faces as the whole community came together to have a great time.

“I’d like to thank all the local businesses who advertised in our Carnival programme and generously donated prizes, as well as all those who volunteered their time and energy to help make sure things ran like clockwork.”

The event raised around £10,000, which is a fantastic amount, so a huge thank you to everyone for all your support, which we really appreciate. Every penny raised will help fund events and activities in the community which are open to all.
