Oversees Mission
Our Overseas Mission Team works to support our Missionary partners, Keith and Ida Waddell, who live and work in Mwandi, Zambia.
The couple, who are originally from Fife, have a grown-up family and two children, Ellie and Mubita, whom they have adopted in Mwandi.
Together, they are involved in a number of projects to empower and help improve the lives of the poorest members of their community.
Most recently, this has included providing chickens to help young people support their families. The Mwandi chickens are already laying well and there is a great demand for their eggs.
Our donations of baby clothes have also been very popular; they are given out to new mums, many of whom are HIV positive. This encourages them to access healthcare which can make a real difference to their wellbeing, and that of their babies.
We also send at least £500 a year to help supply baby milk as part of the same programme to reduce the spread of HIV and AIDS.
We have sent solar calculators and raised money for solar lamps to help upper school students with their studies at home.
As a Church, we hold a series of fundraising events throughout the year to support this work, including a Pop-Up Breakfast, concerts and a car treasure hunt.
These events are open to everyone and are always well supported – as well as being lots of fun.
Christian Aid
Our contribution to Christian Aid is an important part of our outreach work.
Every year we organise door-to-door collections to each house in the parish during Christian Aid Week, helping to raise vital funds for this charity and support its efforts to combat the scourge of droughts, which are becoming more common across the world as a result of climate change.
Christian Aid helps with water conservation projects, supplies drought tolerant seeds and helps communities develop small scale irrigation projects.
It helps individuals and communities to help themselves, as well as dealing with emergency situations.
It offers help to those of all faiths and none.
If you would like to help with our Christian Aid Week collections (usually in May), please email Caroline Morrison at c.e.morrison@btinternet.com
Fair Trade
As a Church we encourage the use of Fairtrade products.
Fairtrade works with farming co-operatives, businesses and governments to make trade fair, ensuring that producers earn secure and sustainable livelihoods.
This enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives.
We are working towards being fully fairtrade and are supported by our local Co-op, who supply fairtrade goods.
