Worship

Morning Worship is held on Sundays at 11am; any changes to the services will be advised in advance.

Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sundays in March and October, at 11am and 6.45pm.

We hold less formal Communion services several times a year, when our Sunday Club children are sometimes invited to help serve.

We also stream our services live on our YouTube channel.

What to Expect when you come to church

We want you to feel very welcome so here is a bit more information about what you can expect at a service.

Our friendly Welcome Team will greet you at the door before you make your way to your seat.

If there is a baptism, or on Remembrance Sunday, the first few rows in the centre of the Church may be reserved.

Several rows at the front on the right-hand side of the Church are usually reserved for Sunday Club.

Please feel free to sit anywhere else, apart from the pulpit!

Before Morning Worship begins, you will see slides projected onto the wall above the pulpit (in front of you).

These contain practical information about fire exits and filming/photography, as well as any events we have planned for the week ahead.

An offering is taken during the service, when an offertory bag will be passed along the pews.

This is an opportunity to contribute to our Church and to the various charities we support, if you would like to.

frequently asked questions

There is no dress code – what you decide to wear is entirely up to you.

Some people like to dress up a little, or wear a suit, others are very comfortable in their jeans and trainers.

We have a vibrant and active Sunday Club which meets every Sunday during the school year. Children can check in from 10:50am at the Killellan Hall entrance, along the right hand side of the Church.

We have a Creche for children up to the age of 3 and then Sunday Club classes from age 3 – 18.

Children are very welcome at our Church and there is usually an all-age talk after the first hymn and prayer, which always involves younger visitors and members of our Sunday Club.

During the second hymn, the children attending Sunday Club or Creche, make their way into Killellan Halls via the Sanctuary door.

Visiting children are always welcome to join Sunday Club, or use the Creche facilities – please speak to a member of the Welcome Team who will be happy to help you with this.

We have wheelchair access, a lift and a disabled toilet and our Welcome Team will be happy to give you directions or help.

There are spaces in the Church set aside for wheelchair users and disabled parking spaces are available in front of the Church.

The service is also transmitted through a hearing loop system.

At the start of Morning Worship we begin with a moment of reflection.

Our Minister will then ask the congregation to stand, if they are able, in silence as the Bible is carried into the Sanctuary, where it remains throughout the service.

This is a moment to pause, be still, and think about our worship.

The easiest thing to do is to follow those around you but if you are less able, or feel unwell, please feel free to sit at all times.

Generally, we stand for hymns and stay seated at other times.

After the last hymn, we remain standing for the benediction and closing hymn. We remain standing until the Bible leaves, then remain seated until the Minister leaves.

We sing hymns during the service, as a way to worship God, to show our thanks to him and to express how we feel.

The words for the hymns are projected onto the walls above the Sanctuary, and they are also in our hymn books (including melody and large print versions), available from the Welcome Team.

Prayer is when we talk to God and it is a very important part of all our services. At different times during the service we will pray for different things: for ourselves, for our community and for the wider world.

Prayer is usually led by our Minister.

During each service, our Minister will give a talk (also known as a sermon), focused on the specific passage of the Bible that was read earlier in the service.

The sermon helps us to understand the Bible and its message, and how to apply it to our lives.

An offering is taken during the service, when an offertory bag will be passed along the pews.

This is an opportunity to contribute to our Church and to the various charities we support, if you would like to.

We also have a card terminal at the back of the Church to allow those who don’t carry cash to make contributions too. This means that anyone who wishes to can give via a contactless payment.

After the service we serve tea and coffee in the Killellan Halls (through the right-hand door in the Sanctuary.

This is a lovely opportunity to chat, catch up with friends and get to know each other if you are new to Church, or to the wider Houston community.
